PPWR Module of the greenable Product Sustainability Platform
Systematically map packaging and packaging systems, collect supplier data and supporting documentation, and create technical documentation and declarations of conformity.
The EU Packaging Regulation (PPWR, Regulation (EU) 2025/40) has been in effect since February 2025. Most of the requirements will apply directly in all EU member states starting August 12, 2026—without the need for national implementation. Affected companies should begin collecting packaging data in a structured manner now.
PPWR Takes Effect
(Transition Period in Effect)
Key obligations for economic operators—including clarification of roles, conformity assessment, technical documentation, and the EU Declaration of Conformity—will come into effect.
Gradual introduction of additional requirements, including recyclability levels and recycled content percentages

Even if certain requirements will not take effect until later, the necessary data, responsibilities, and supporting documentation must be established early on. This includes, in particular, structured packaging and material data, supplier information, roles and responsibilities, as well as processes for technical documentation and declarations of conformity.

Represent primary, secondary, and transport packaging, as well as their individual components, in a clear hierarchy. Materials, weights, suppliers, and product assignments are directly linked to the respective packaging level.

Request material compositions, substance information, test reports, and other documentation directly from the relevant suppliers. The information received is recorded centrally and assigned to the appropriate materials or packaging components.

Keep track of what information is already available and where action is still needed. Role-based requirements and status indicators help you track down missing data and documents in a targeted manner.

Use the structured packaging, material, and supporting documentation data as the basis for technical documentation and declarations of conformity. Documents are created based on the most current data and remain traceable through version control and associated supporting documentation.
The PPWR software is part of the greenable Product Sustainability Platform. Packaging, materials, suppliers, documentation, and product assignments are managed within a unified data structure and can also be incorporated into product carbon footprints, LCA analyses, and the Digital Product Passport. This ensures that the result is not an isolated PPWR database, but rather a robust foundation for meeting various requirements for product and sustainability data.
The sooner you begin organizing your packaging data, the smoother the transition to the new PPWR requirements will be. Let’s discuss where you stand—with no obligation.
